Family Birthday Party & Fête Champêtre at Local Winery

This year, my family is celebrating some key birthday milestones. My middle brother recently turned 40, my son will be 20 this summer – how is that possible! –  and my Dad is turning a young 70 in September -:)

There’s quite an age difference with my two brothers. I’m the oldest by 8 and 11 years. While I’m their big sister, we’re very close now that we all have kids.

My brother hosted his birthday party at the Village Winery & Orchards in Waterford, VA a charming small town a few minutes away from Leesburg. The winery has 10 acres of vineyards and takes pride in crafting their wines entirely by hand and aging all of their wines in French oak barrels to further enhance them during the aging process.

The winery has a beautiful and relaxing country setting which is perfect for a fête champêtre or picnic. A fête champêtre was a popular form of entertainment at the French court in the 18th century. Today we can basically call it a garden party style with food trays of charcuterie, sandwiches, fruits and vegetables all set outside.

The best part about celebrating my brother’s 40th birthday was that he announced that they are moving back to Waterford in Loundon county, Virginia from Denver, Colorado. We couldn’t be happier, especially my daughter who adores her little cousins!

For the occasion, I went with a casual chic dark denim and white lace outfit, paired with nude patent pumps. Turns out I was the only one in heels -:) My brother did remind me it was a super casual affair but his fashionista sister can’t help herself!
