A black and white outfit is always chic especially in the winter.
This outfit was actually inspired by Isabelle Huppert’s in her outstanding performance in The Romanoffs Netflix series.
I have been obsessed with this eight episode series that centers around people who believe themselves to be the modern-day descendants of the Romanov family, to a point that I now believe I’m a descendant!
Isabelle Huppert, one of my favorite French actress, plays a manipulative film director (she’s the Romanov descendant in this episode) who enjoys sending mixed signals to main actress Christina Hendricks and reality begins to blur with fantasy as she’s reenacting her family ancestry.
In the last scene where all the Romanov family is about to get shot, Isabelle Huppert makes a grand appearance in her black leather pants, high-heels suede boots and long white blazer. Her outfit is so well put together that it made quite an impression on me! Love the black tie too which adds a nice chic masculine element to the outfit.
In my interpretation of this Romanov-esque outfit, I replaced the black tie with a simple black satin tie bow. Both work with a buttoned down white blouse. I also replaced her long white blazer with a short white coat and white tweed jacket to show you how you can style it both ways.
For the black leather pants, I opted for the classic five pocket faux leather jeans. I’ve linked a few options – both affordable and a bit more pricey – and a few white coat and jacket options on LIKETOKNOW.IT.
A pair of faux leather skinny jeans is a must-have to any French Chic wardrobe. You can style it with a belt which makes the outfit a bit more chic than faux-leather leggings.
Complete the outfit with a pair of black suede booties. I personally prefer chunky heels than high heels but either or will elongate your look!
Hope you enjoyed this winter chic outfit!

Christine, that outfit is super sharp. As a whole, it is equally good with either the coat or the jacket. I’m a PBS fan – loving the Durrells of Corfu, Poldark, and The Heart Guy! Judith
Thanks Judith! I need to check these PBS shows! Have a great week.
Fantastic style steal! Love the look a lot, I am browsing for a good tie for a androgyne look.
Great outfit, with the coat is my best. Lise
Christine,
I love this look on you. Your hair back too looks very pretty. Love the mix of the winter white with the edgier black jeans.
I loved this Anthology! I have watched it and that episode was my favorite too. She was quite demanding and so good. I enjoyed “The Sinner” on Netflix as well.
thanks for linking!
