French women adore their basics and by basics, I mean quality essentials. These basics are the foundation to our wardrobe which is very similar to the capsule wardrobe concept.
I personally make the most of my basic essentials when transitioning from one season to another, like this time of year. The best part about investing in quality basics is they won’t wear out in 3 months!
Here are some tips French women use all the time when shopping for basics:
- I can wear this over and over until it falls apart
- It goes with everything I already own
- I pretty much can’t live without it
- Is the glue that helps me keep the rest of my wardrobe together
- Is made of a quality material that will last for a very long time (more than one season)
You can pretty much create your French Chic wardrobe based on this 5-Piece basics list, courtesy of WhoWhatWear.com.
A white button-down shirt is a timeless essential to any French wardrobe. A simple white shirt is so elegant with a casual jeans look or a more dressy office look with black pants. The key is to style it with a French twist. Coco Chanel used to accessorize her white shirts with a ton of jewelry. I like accessorizing mine with a scarf or simply wear it under a blazer or cardigan for a more minimalist look.
I do own quite a few as I’m a bit obsessed with whites shirts! My latest addition is this Calvin Klein bell sleeves cotton blouse. It’s 100% cotton and the best part it’s wrinkle free! I love wearing it on the weekends with skinny jeans and my red velvet booties. I completed this casual weekend look with a fedora hat as it was a bit windy last sunday!
Next week, I plan on sharing another French Chic wardrobe essentials: the black leather pants.
Hope you enjoyed this look.
As always, thanks for reading!
Happy First Day of March!
A bientôt ♥

This outfit is so cute 😍 I love button ups, I need one 😩
Thanks so much Lupe! Have a great day!
I agree about a classic white button-down shirt. Actually ALL those items in a French wardrobe should be in EVERY WOMAN’S closet since they are all basic essentials. I love that you added a pretty silk scarf to your white blouse and the red booties keep it fun and different too. Love that we both wore red booties today.

What a fun and trendy take on a classic white shirt! I enjoyed reading your list of essential basics and mentally checked them off in my head. 🙂 Thanks for linking up, Christine!
Nicely done. Nothing dresses up a look more than a hat and a gorgeous scarf like yours.
You completed a few nice points there. I did a search on the theme and found nearly all persons will consent with your blog.
Thanks so much for your comment Alisha!
