I absolutely love fall in Washington DC, when the weather is crisp and cool that is! We’ve been having a heat wave this past week with a humidity level that’s just unbearable and miserable for all of us fashionistas!
Hubby and I enjoy dining out in DC this time of year. With the leaves falling, it always reminds me of Paris. I find it to be the most romantic time of the year! It’s also Hubby’s birthday this week and a great reason to dine out and celebrate!
This time of year, I just love wearing my black moto leather jacket and simply wear it with black denim and a lace camisole (in hoping the weather will cool off a bit by this weekend). I paired this street style outfit with my most comfortable open-toe booties and I’ll be all set to rock’n roll this Saturday!
There are a few good French tables that we frequently go to that I highly recommend.
« Le Dip » is definitely our number 1 on our list! The food is authentic of a Parisian brasserie with the best French fries in town and baguette! My favorite dish there is the Beef Bourguignon and hubby’s is Steak Frites. Their desert menu is to die for! I love the Apple Tarte Tartin and Alex loves the Palet-Chocolat-Café with whiskey ice-cream. Yum!
Central is technically a modern American bistro with a French twist. The owner Michel Richard who sadly passed away last year was French but loved American food. We love going there for a family brunch. There’s something for everyone, even for the little kids. Central is famous for its burger on a brioche bun. I love their Frisée Salad with its Petit Lardons and Poached Eggs. Their deserts are pretty decadent too. Try Michel’s Chocolate Bar and let me know what you think!
Located in Great Falls, a short hour from DC, L’Auberge Chez François is a high-end French restaurant in a charming farmhouse setting, reminiscent of an inn from Alsace, in northeastern France. We typically go there for special occasions like a milestone birthday or Valentine’s Day. They offer a prix-menu with specialties like Escargots de Bourgogne, Choucroute Royale et Omelette Norvégienne. It is totally worth the drive from DC!
This bakery is a hidden gem in Georgetown. My mother used to order “La Galette des Rois” (King’s Cake) for Epiphany which is January 6th in the Catholic calendar. The tradition is to hide a small charm “la Fève” and whomever would have it would be the Queen or King for the New Year. Next to the bakery, there’s a small café (with outside seating) where you can have lunch. My favorite dish is the Crudité Salad and the Hot Ham and Cheese croissant.
Not far from Patisserie Poupon is Boulangerie Christophe, another authentic French bakery with a Provençal flavor. The owners are from St. Tropez and it’s the only place to eat the famous Tropézienne which is a brioche filled with rich cream. My favorite dishes are the Soupe de Poisson and the Boursin Omelet with Tomates Provençales. They also serve Ratatouille and Gratin Dauphinois. Last time we ate brunch there, my daughter raved about the lavender lemonade which is so refreshing!
Ladurée finally opened in Georgetown last Spring! Famous for its macarons, Ladurée is the oldest Parisian tearoom. The décor of the Georgetown location is a replica of the first Ladurée on 16, Rue Royale with its pastel walls, chandeliers and crown molding. While seating is limited, you can also have lunch and desert! Each day they serve a Plat du Jour for $30. My favorite desert after the macarons of course, is the Saint Honoré aux Framboises.
