A French Girl’s Advice to New Year’s Resolutions

Bon Chic Style Blog

Let’s be honest here. French women don’t make New Year’s resolutions. I bet you’re not that surprised.  Well for one thing, we believe that making drastic resolutions won’t last too long and that it will have a ripple effect on the rest of our life and moods, which will ultimately make us miserable at the end. We prefer a more realistic approach and take this time to reflect on one self and revisit one’s priorities by starting with the basics.

I personally take a slightly different spin. I spend this time of the year looking for new inspirations which will then guide me achieve my personal and professional goals. With that in mind, I propose to call New Year’s resolutions, New Year’s inspirations.

This is a simple mindset change that will actually work better for the long run as when we’re inspired, we listen to our inner voice, see life in a brand new way and start making positive changes.

Here are my New Year’s inspirations that have helped me define my goals:

1. Being Inspired by Mother Nature and Be Healthier

I’m not much of a workout type of girl and prefer long walks. I get so much inspiration when disconnecting from everything. Walking clears my head and I always comes back refreshed and feeling like I got a great workout without too much sweat! Taking care of myself is more of a priority now than I’m in my mid-forties. I try to be disciplined, especially during the work week and drink one liter of water every day, get 8 hours of sleep and put on my night moisturizer.

2. Being Inspired by a New Story and Continue Making My Own

I always love reading a good story, particularly biographies. Since an early age, I have been fascinated by Coco Chanel. I have read many of her biographies and this Christmas, my husband surprised me with a beautiful illustrated biography by Megan Hess with amazing inspirational quotes. Her determination, fashion influence and style inspire me everyday as I curate content for the blog. Her story has also helped me set the following goals for my career: planning ahead and being more involved in the fashion blogging community.

3. Being Inspired by My Family and Living in the Moment

Spending more time with my kids and my husband is always a priority. They inspire me on some many levels and always give me new perspectives. Like many of us, it’s all about managing that work-life balance. Disconnecting on the weekend and having that one on one interaction is so important for them but also for me. I am more recharged, happy and creative after spending time with my family.

What about you? What has inspired you in the last few months that you’d like to incorporate in your daily life?

Whatever it might be, I hope you find inspiration here.

As always, thanks for reading my blog. Happy New Year!
